ONYX Southeast was founded in August 1999 to provide education, fraternization and serve as a bridge for Men of Color to the greater Leather community. The founding fathers of ONYX southeast are : Stan, EJ, Jamal, Reggie and Ricc. Their first bar night was held at the Atlanta Eagle on the First sunday in 1999. The bar night date was soon switched and has remained the first friday of each month since 2000.
ONYX is the longest existing Leather club for People of Color and we are known for our hospitality and our infamous annual ONYX Leather Dance at International Mr. Leather Weekend in Chicago and ONYX cocktail party at Mid Atlantic Leather weekend in Washington DC. ONYX celebrates it's anniversary each Columbus Day Weekend with the BLACKOUT Weekend Run.
ONYX has had a long standing reputation within the Leather Community with members not only in the southeast region but also nationwide and internationally. We recently became a part of the southeastern conference of clubs.
ONYX southeast has always and continues to be involved in charity work. Our Chapter is involved in contributing back to the Leather, GLBT and People of Color communities. HIV prevention and care organizations and those that AID LGBT youth have always been of note.
All who support our cause may become members of ONYX. We thank the elders in the People of Color Leather Community for paving the way in order for us to exist. ONYX honors that tradition and looks forward to many more years. |
